Welcome!

 

Welcome to the beginning of your inquiry activity. This is a long term, group-based project that we will work on over the course of one 8-week semester.

 

The basis of the project is to analyze media coverage of a social or political issue, to connect with leaders who work on such causes, and to create an innovative solution to share with your classmates.

 

The objectives of this project are as follows:

  • learn to identify reliable sources of information

  • learn to analyze written news media to determine factors such as content, tone, and intended audience

  • learn to analyze audio and/or audiovisual news media to determine factors such as content, tone, and intended audience

  • utilize online communication tools to connect with a leader in the field

  • create an innovative, localized solution to an issue and present to classmates

  • summarize personal learning in a reflective paper

 

This lesson is designed to acheive the following Standards of Learning:

  • ELPS1- Instructional: Summarize information from various sources and share

  • Tech SOL C/T 9-12.8: Understand the nature of information in a global society and how characteristics of various media may influence others

 

You will learn:

  • How to think critically about how social and political issues are presented in the media

  • How to create a network using technology

  • How to present an issue in a respectful manner using formal language
